[WPC] Chronicles chapter ten: What lies beneath

"One man down here. Some sort of hand shaped alien, keep your eyes open."
Webley crouched beside the young privates body. Bits and pieces of his head, and of the creature lay scattered across the room. What the hell had they gotten themselves in to? Ganchan looked in shock, pearls of sweat covered his forehead. With little time to process the situation, he had chosen the fastest option to safety. For himself and for the pack. Now, he wasn't so sure about his decision.
"Go and see what Solo is up to, tell him what has happened here and let him make up a report for Sergeant Shadow."
"Yes sir."

Solo had seemed startled when Gan had walked into the room, he had disturbed him in his research. There were pictures of the so-called "Xeno's" on the screen, they had been taken inside a lab simular to the one he just came from. He figured that wasn't the only one in the building.
"Did you find out where the people who worked here have gone? The reason for their signal?"
Solo was typing up the report.
"There is no mention of their departure in the records. The last entry is dated 2 weeks ago."
They were silent as Solo finished his report.

As the others continued their way through the building, Hemi was still on the groundfloor where the vehicle had been. He had scoped out the whole room, without any clues about it's last destination. Beneath him, strange sounds had begun to sound. He signaled Webley through his com-system.
"There's a lower level here me, I'm checking it out."
Webley's reply hadn't come in too clear, he only heard the the words "keep your eyes open". Ofcourse he would, him and Webley had been marines for a long time. He knew the drill. He opened up a panel in the floor he had looked at earlier. Once the panel was removed he looked down a long and dark staircase. He sighed and wondered why he was doing this, then turned and set his foot on the first step.

"H-ly Sh-!! We-----y---g----down he--!!!" The transmission was bad, almost not understandable. One thing was clear, something big was happening in the buildings basement.
"Hemi! I can't hear you, there's too much static! We're on our way, wait for us!"
He rounded up his men and they ran down the stairs, meanwhile he let Buzz know to continue his search. Ganchan shot up from his chair when they bolted by the office.
"Whats going on?!"
"We don't know, but it's big!" Dazoo shouted at him.
WIthout any hesitation Ganchan picked up his shotgun and joined them down the stairs. They entered the ground floor and charged at the opening in the floor. One by one they made there way to the basement.

"What the fuck is that! What the hell were they doing in this place?!" Some of the men had turned white as a sheet.
"That is one giant Xeno...."
"Are those like the egg you saw upstairs Ganchan?" Webley asked.
"Yeah they are. It came flying right out of it. Stay away from those fuckers."
"It seems like they are coming from...her."
They all stood and looked around the room silently. The massive creature was tied up, it must have measured over 10 meters tall. She kept laying eggs, stopping only to let out one of her terrible screams. Eggs surrounded her and seemed almost to be pulsating.
Webley's com system sounded again. The reception was terrible down there, all he could here was static. He went back up the steps.
"Webley, do you read me!"
"Yes Weeperr I hear you. What's up?"
"I have no clue, but the motiontrackers are going crazy up here."
"What do you mean?"
"I have multiple signals coming our way!"

[WPC] Chronicles chapter nine: First contact

Webley's heart was racing as he walked the stairs onto the next level. Solo stayed behind, going through all the data on the computers. The team had undermined his orders, and as a result they might be in some kind of trouble. He knew he could trust Buzz to take over controls when needed, but this place gave him the creeps and he wanted everything to go by the book. Just a few more steps. He could not hear the men, just a low buzzing noise. Like refridgerator or something.

"Buzz! Whats going o-...on..." It was quite clear why Buzz had called him up there. This was what Solo ment with "testing". Big fluid filled tubes containing some kind of weird looking animal, all with strange looking variations. Apparently these "alterations" weren't a very big succes, as the animals showed no life signs. Webley scanned the rest of the room, the team still quiet and wide eyed looking. Against one of the walls was one of those anatomy posters they used to have in biology class, but the picture was nothing like the one's in school. It said: Xenomorph. "So that's what we're looking at, Xenomorphs..."

"Understood Corporal."
If he had not been so mad in his disobedience, Webley would have laughed at the way Buzz's cheeks turned red after he had scolded him for it. He suppressed his smile.
"This search is taking too long, we will be splitting up into groups from here on, and I need trust you in leading the men. So no goofing around anymore, and keep me updated at all times."
"Yes, sir."
Webley turned back towards the pack.
"Ganchan and Bowow stay here. Woody, Hammer and Alpha, you take the elevator with Buzz up to the top floor and work your way down. The rest is with me, we'll take the stairs and work are way upwards till we meet Buzz's team. Let's go!"

"So what do you think about these Xeno's man? I bet you could punch one out like a light with one of your vicious uppercuts!" Bowow stood in front of one of the tubes, punching the air in front of it. Ganchan was a man of action, not words. He was annoyed at Bowow's ongoing chatter. "I think we should stay focused and stand guard till the others get back." he replied. He heard Bowow mumble something under his breath, but decided not to take any notice. Suddenly there was a noise, it sounded like the elevator but it came from somewhere else in the building.
"Uh-oh"
"What did you do?!"
"One of these buttons was flickering, and I guess I pushed it.."
The noise had stopped close to them, both turned the way it came from. Ganchan raised his shotgun. A panel in the wall opened up, and an egg of some sorts was presented to them. Something seemed to move inside, it was nasty and slimy looking. With breaths hold they stood looking at it with disgust. Before they knew what was happening, the egg opened itself. A hand like creature jumped out of it with tremendous velocity, and grabbed onto Bowows face. He started screaming and tried to pry it of with his hands, meanwhile stumbling across the room like a madman. It all happened so fast, and Ganchan made a split second decision. He aimed his gun, and pulled the trigger...

[WPC] Chronicles chapter eight: Discovery

The building towered above the APC, they couldnt even see the top of it through the mist. " Let's check this place out men. Weeperr you stay here and monitor us from the vehicle. Everyone turn on your com systems and motiontrackers. We will start out as a team, scope out the situation, then devide into groups to search the rest of the buidling. I want to know what is happening at all times, if you see anything weird you report it. Look sharp people, we're going in...

The entrance was quite easily found, and they formed themselves around it. Buzz was going in first. "Nothing on the motiontrackers yet." From the APC, Weeperr watched them on the screens. "Security override, done!" Solo diconnected from the acces panel. Weapons ready, they entered the building. It was empty. Swiftly the team covered the room and took their positions. Solo was the first to speak:
" I would suspect this is where you would keep a vehicle."
" They must have gone for a drive then. Grocery shopping, what do you think 2.0? " Buzz said from behind.
"This vehicle wasn't in very good condition." Hemi sat crouched to the floor and touched on a dark spot. " Oil leakage. And there are tools missing from the toolbox. " It might be what happened here," Webley noted." they went out in their vehicle and it broke down somewhere. " We won't know anything for sure before we search the whole place. Hemi stay here and try to find out more about their vehicle. The rest of you, let's get moving again."

The first level could be reach by staircase or elevator. They split up into two groups and entered the next quiet room. It was some sort of office, filled with desks and computers. Once again they swiftly moved across the empty place. Some computers were running and Solo took his place behind one of them. " Look at the view man!" Hammer shouted. " I can see absolutely shit!" Buzz nudged her in the back with his gun, wich made her fall out of balance and land face forward onto the glass. The teams laughter filled the office, Buzz's low rumble above them all as always. Hammer got herself together and gave him the meanest look she had, while scrambling away from the windows.

Webley walked up to Solo, who was still seated behind one of the computer screens. " Have you found anything usefull?" It took a while for Solo to answer him.
" I'm not sure on the details yet, but it seems this is a testing facility."
"Testing? What kind of tests were they doing here?"
Again there was a silence, Solo seemed deeply into the subject that was on the screen.
" Some kind of animal testing. An animal that is only found on several planets, including this one. I believe they thought this was their homeplanet." He seemed to drift off into the data again, Webley stood and watch him for a minute. The sound of his com system startled him, he hadn't noticed the team had moved on. He felt annoyed for a moment they hadn't awaited his order. "Boss," it was Buzz " I think you'd better come up here.
" What is it Lance Corporal."
"Thats the point, we don't know what we're looking at sir..."

[WPC] Chronicles chapter seven: Road trip

It was a tedious drive across the misty planet. The clouded view made the journey difficult, and driving had to be done at a slow pace. Some of the crew had fallen asleep in the back of the APC. Weeperr was behind the wheel with Solo and began complaining.
"This road trip needs some snacks! I know you could go for days, 2.0, but I could seriously use some grub."
"Let me get out to take a whiz Solo", Hemi replied from behind.

"Yeah we need some fresh air, Buzz farts in his sleep man!" Hammer shouted.
Others started squirming around in their seats. Solo went back to his thoughts for a minute. The signal was not that far away anymore. He would rather keep driving. But on the other hand, a short stop might wake them up a bit and get them ready for action. The APC came to a halt.
"Five minutes, people."

They stopped in an area bordered by a pond. The water was not deep, and some plant life covered the surface. Even though the pond was only a couple meters wide, still they could not see the other side through the mist. As Hemi checked some bits and pieces on the APC, a few of the men set out to explore the zone a bit. With their lights turned on, Tic, Buzz and Thomas walked around the pond. Thomas pulled out his knife and crouched close to the water. He poked at one of the weird looking plants. They could not see their pack mates, but every now and then they would see a speck of light in the distance from a lit up cigarette. Something splashed the water.
"Holy shit!" Thomas yelled, "That plant just tried to eat me!"
He fell backwards on the sand. Buzz and Tic laughed at him:
"How is that tiny plant gonna eat you man? You’re starting to imagine things. I guess we should have left you in that infirmary with Mac."
Tic lent him a hand to get him back on his feet. Buzz started walking back, still laughing at Thomas and his plant. After Thomas dusted himself off, he followed Buzz. Tic turned to join them but a sound startled him. The hair on his neck stood up as he peered through the mist. Nothing was visible. Maybe Thomas was right about those plants.

Solo was still in the APC. Webley joined him to check out their progress.
"I estimate we will cross the signal in about an hour’s drive. It seems to be of human origin."
- "Can you read any life signs?"
"I cannot, but this might be due to the humidity. If they don't have Personal Data Transmitters implanted, we won't read them till our motion trackers do."
- "There should be records if there's a colony of some sorts on this planet, right?"
"No records are available about Hades IV."
Webley stared at the little dot on the screen. What would they find there?
"I can't imagine people living here..."

The pack settled in the APC. Solo took the wheel again and followed the signal. They drove on through the mist for more than an hour before the radar showed they were getting close. They should have been able to see what was in front of them, but everything remained gray and still. Weeperr had his nose pressed to the front window.
"Still can't see anything. Would help if we knew what we we're looking for."
His breath clouded the window, making it even more impossible to see anything. Solo slowed down the vehicle. The signal was now only a few meters away from them. Slowly, something became visible. They stopped to see what was in their line of sight. The building was a very high vertical block, observation decks set up horizontally at various heights.
"Have you ever seen anything like that before Solo?" Weeperr whispered.
- "Never."

[WPC] Chronicles chapter six: Dropping out of orbit

'Listen up people, I just received the details of our mission.' The crew gathered to be briefed. 1st Corporal Webley stood in front of the group, about to read the transmission from Sergeant Shadow. ' You are about to land on the planet Hades IV. About two weeks ago we intercepted a signal of a yet to be determined origin. Deciphering it proved to be a challenge , due to the planet's unique atmosphere. Your job is to track down the signal. As soon as you'll succeed in doing so, report back to me immediately. Good luck marines.' 'Allright wolves, get all the necessary equipment for our first recon of the planet ready in the APC. Solo I need you to start scanning for the signal.' 'Yes sir.'

The cargobay was a busy place again after 10 days of silence. Most of the crew was working with passion. Word had gotten out that MacCabbe and Zeeky would not be leaving with them and would remain on the dropship . Mac was to be restrained to the infirmary. Zeek would keep an eye on him and stay in contact with the pack while they would be exploring the planet. For some, the news was a relief, but others felt uneasy in missing two valuable members of the team.

Solo and Webley sat in the cockpit reviewing Solo's results. 'Scan shows it's a very damp planet. This is probably the reason why previous investigations were unsuccessful. I expect the planet to have some plantlife, and maybe a few small amphibian creatures. Be prepared for equipment failure and communication problems. Try to keep everything as dry as possible.'
'It sounds like paradise.' Webley took a drag from his cigarette and smirked at Solo.

'Ten minutes till landing!' Everything was loaded up into the APC. The pack sat in their seats, side by side. As the ramp of the Epsilon opened, the UD4 began to drop down towards the planet. This was Private Ganchan's least favorite part of being a marine. The former boxing legend had received many punches, from which his nose had never recovered. He had taken every punch without as much as a whimper, but dropping down out of orbit made him turn white as a sheet. Lance Corporal Buzz noticed the fear on his face and patted him on the shoulder. ' Hold on Gan! This will all be over soon, then we can get to the real scary stuff!!' His roaring laugh sounded trough the room, loud enough to be heard over the blasting engines. Ganchan gave him a grin and hoped he could keep his food inside until the landing.

Finally the dropship touched the surface of Hades IV. Solo left the ship in the hands of Zeeky and joined the others in the APC. Once settled behind the wheel, he activated the engines. Together with Weeperr he would navigate the vehicle across the planet in search of the origin of the signal. Weeperr activated the cargodoors to open up. They slowly drove down the ramp. During the first few yards they moved as blind men, and Solo stopped the APC to take a look around. It was as if they were surrounded by gray walls, a thick and heavy mist laying all around them. 'Holy shit!' Weeperr cried out. 'It's gonna be impossible to find anything on this planet.' Just as he finished his sentence the radar started bleeping, it was the signal.

[WPC] Chronicles chapter five: Guard duty

Monitors beeped in a slow and steady rythm. Outside of the room, Private Hammer stood on guard. The last couple of days she had been keeping an eye on MacCabbe, together with Zeek and Webley. Solo had awaken them from their hypersleep to assist him in the matter. Mac was getting better physically. Though the fever had dropped and he rambled no more, Sergeant Shadow had ordered him to sit out of the mission and remain on the dropship.

Mac was awake. The news that he wasn't going to participate in the mission had made him mad. Although the restraints had been taken off, he kept to his stretcher. Everything had been going wrong since that one mission in the jungle. He felt like it had been haunting him all this time. The drugs had helped: he didnt feel the need to look over his shoulder everywhere he went. And the voices... The drugs helped to tune down the voices. A couple of extra pills would see him through the hypersleep period. But it everything had gone horribly wrong. He felt the fear creeping back already.

Outside the room, Private Zeeky was about to release Hammer from her guard duty. ' Hey Hammer, get yourself some rest.' Private Hammer was hopping around the corridor, doing what seemed like martial arts inspired moves. 'You know me Zeek, I'd rather go do a workout than rest. We've been asleep for days! I'm so stoked they woke us up early, can't wait to get to the action!' Zeeky took a step back while Hammer came at him with her combat moves, which ended a bit unsteady and with Hammer's stuff all over the floor. They both laughed at the situation while picking up Hammers stuff from the floor. 'Was that all Hammer?'
'I don't know,' she searched her pockets 'I'm missing my Magnum 357.'
'That's not good!' Zeeky replied.
'Ah nevermind, I think it's still in my locker. Didn't think I would need it for today anyway. Mac is as meek as a lamb!'
'Guess you're right, this is the easiest mission we ever did!' Both of them laughed out loud.
'Well I'm off for a workout. See ya Zeek.'

The voices were getting louder. He couldnt get to his pills, but he had found a way to get himself armed again. At least he would be able to defend himself. He dozed off for a bit.
The dreams had awoken him... Dreams about the unseen evil. His heart was racing, and then he heard it. That sound. Just like before. It was coming for him, he was sure of it. He let himself drop to the floor for cover and loaded the Magnum. From behind the stretcher, he scoped out the room. Suddenly the doors opened, and there it was! Without hesitation he shot at it. The evil fell to the ground.

The alarm sounded, in no time. Solo and Webley stood in the doorway. Mac came up from behind the stretcher. 'I shot it!' He let out a little cackle.
' No you idiot, you shot Zeek!!' Webley shouted at him. Zeeky was on the floor, the bullet had hit him in the shoulder.
'He shot me! the motherf*cker shot me!'
'Take it easy Zeek. Look on the bright side, you're already in the medicbay!'
Solo turned off the alarm and helped Zeeky get up on a stretcher. Mac was back on his own stretcher, looking pretty confused. Solo filled two syringes. One with a painkiller for Zeek, and the other with a sedative for MacCabbe. After a few minutes Mac was out again and the restraints came back on.

'That's two men down before the mission has even started Solo. I have a very bad feeling about this.' Webley took another long drag of his cigaret. ' I have no idea of what to expect when we land tomorrow.'
Solo sat with his back to him. Another transmission to the Sergeant. He wasn't going to be happy. Nonetheless they would have to continue.
'We have to start waking the rest of the crew.' Solo finally said. Webley pushed his cigarette into the ashtray. 'I guess you're right. The mission must go on. All this madness can't distract us from the duty on hand.

[WPC] Chronicles chapter four: A rude awakening

Five days into the journey to Hades IV. Another five to go. The ship was well on its way. Solo, being a synthetic, was the only thing moving inside. He finished the necessary control sequences the ship required, and sat to check the results. Everything was working as it was supposed to. He stayed in his seat for a moment and stared into the dark space surrounding the ship. He enjoyed the quiet moments on the ship.

After a couple of minutes, he started his daily patrol of the ship. He walked through the corridors and stopped at all the very same places he did the day before. Finally he stepped into the hypersleep capsule chamber. He turned on the lights and waited a moment for his sensors to adjust to the light. The capsules were lined up in rows of five that he passed. While checking them out he glanced to the packmembers laying like serene statues. Well, some did. Dusty just looked like he was recovering from a night of heavy drinking, Solo thought to himself.

He moved over to the next row, but suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. In the capsule before him was MacCabbe, his eyed wide open! This was impossible in hypersleep and Solo deactivated the sequence immediately. MacCabbe stayed as quiet as he had seemed from the outside. This wasn't normal. Solo had to get him into the medical bay at once.

He arrived at the medical bay with Mac strapped to the stretcher. After tapping some blood from his arm he covered him up with a blanket while waiting for the results of the bloodtesting. He sat facing the screen, evaluating his sleep pattern of the last days.
'Can't...' The sound came from the stretcher. Solo turned towards him. 'Mac, you're in the medical bay. Just relax.'
'Can't see...'
'You can't see?' He shone a light in his eyes, and pupils responded normally. MacCabbe started shaking.
'I can't see it!' Sweat covered his bald head, the monitor he was hooked up to showed a fever of a 102. Solo returned to his desk and looked at the blood results. From what he could read, Mac was on some kind of drug. He would need further testing to determine which exact one.
'Jgl...'
'Mac, you're rambling.' He was shaking all over... If not for the restraints he would have fallen off the stretcher.
'Jggl...Jjj...Jungle.....'
'You're not in the jungle Mac, you are in the medical bay of the Epsilon.' He gave him a shot to not only bring down the fever, but also to calm him down. Suddenly all his muscles tightened and he tried to sit up straight. His eyes were tainted with blood and he was drooling : 'I CAN'T SEE THE EVIL!!' he shouted at the top of his lungs, followed by more rambling noises. Solo gave him a small dose of Haldol to shut him for good. After a minute or so, his body relaxed and he calmed down. Eventually he dosed off.

Solo was back in the cockpit, MacCabbe wasn't waking up anytime soon. This had to be reported. He started writing the events of the day in his transmission to Sergeant Shadow. "Unknown illegal substance found in blood", "Psychotic episodes", "Unfit to perform in mission".
After sending his report he stayed in his seat and looked at the neverending black space again. He would have to wake some people out of there hypersleep to assist him with the situation. But not just yet, he was going to enjoy the silence for just a moment longer...

[WPC] Chronicles chapter three: Ready for departure

The pack was getting ready in the cargobay for their departure to Hades IV. Most were checking and polishing their gear, wich some had decorated. Lance Corporal Buzz's M83A2 SADAR said "Grrrrr" on the side, as a sign of his eagerness to a good fight. Solo was up in the cockpit of the UD4 Dropship doing some final testing on the engines. He always did his testing thoroughly, the crew knew to stay out of his way during those times.

Corporal Webley and Private MacCabbe sat smoking a cigarette in a quiet corner of the cargobay, the two men couldn't be more different in appearance. Webley's long black hair lay across his muscled but lean back in a braided ponytail. His warm and always sunkissed face was the opposite of MacCabbe's rugged looking bald head and goatee. Despite the differences in appearance they had faught allongside eachother for years now, with much respect for one another. For a few weeks now, MacCabbe had been acting more and more irrational. He used to confide in his packmate, but lately the two had grown distant from eachother.

'MacCabbe,' Webley started hesitantly after minutes of silence had gone by, 'What's going on with you? I can't have you acting out on this mission like you did last time.' MacCabbe didn't look at him, instead he kept looking straight forward into the room where Hemi was working on the APC.
'I have to be able to count on you, I used to be able to count on you Josh. What the hell happened?' MacCabbe kept quiet, but Webley saw the emotions on his face. He just couldn't make out what they were trying to say. He watched as MacCabbe rolled another cigarette.
'Shadow has been on my case about you, if this mission doesn't go smoothly we will both pay the concequenses Josh. I don't want that, and I sure know you don't want that either.'
MacCabbe stood from the crate he was sitting on, his back facing Webley. His voice was a bit raspy when he spoke, ' All will be fine Web.' He walked off to help Hemi load the APC into the Dropship.

Solo past them on his way down, he looked at the Corporal sitting in the corner. Something was up, and they were not telling him. If this was something that could endanger the mission, he was supposed to know. He would keep an eye on things, just in case. He walked up to Webley, 'All systems are ready for departure Corporal. Take off is still scheduled for 0700 hours.'
'Thanks Solo,' he replied with some hesitation.

They started walking to the front of the dropship where the rest of the pack stood, strapped and loaded in their gear. The pack was still unaware of what was awaiting them, but that didn't bother anyone. Hades IV was a challenge like all the others for the Wolfpack. It was starting to become dawn as the cargobay doors opened, and the enigens of the UD4 started rumbling. The pack joined together at the access ramp of the dropship. Buzz walked up front, the rest followed him up te slope. MacCabbe tailed behind. The dropship blasted of into orbit, towards the USS Epsilon. Once docked, they found their way to the hypersleep capsule chamber. Once everyone was in place, Solo activated the hypersleep sequence and the capsules closed. In a couple of weeks they would be facing an unknown threat. But with one of them unstable, and the Corporal overly worried about it, the circomstances for this mission weren't great. Solo returned to the cockpit, and the ship went quiet. As it would be for the coming days.

[WPC] Chronicles chapter two: A potential danger

The Wolfpack marched allong, they were headed back to the compound. Corporal Webley walked up front, they had been out all day and now it was starting to get dark. Time had past slowly these past few weeks as there had not been any missions to go on. The team was getting uneasy and so Webley had decided to wear them out on a trainingday. Mission succeeded, they arrived at the base exhausted but fulfilled.

Webley activated the com system, 'Solo, we're back, open up'.
'Yeah Solo let us in we're starving!' yelled Weeperr from the back. The others laughed at Weeperrs constant hunger. The doors opened and they made their way thrue the corridors to the messhall. The pack settled in the usual places, some crowded around the table, a few sought a quieter place. Solo walked into the room. Being a synthetic there had been no need for him to join the crew in exercise that day. The pack jokingly called him Solo 2.0, as he had been replaced after an unfortunate grenade accident. He joined Webley at the table and they talked about several technical issues he had been working on while they had been gone. After a while they fell silent listening to the pack chatter away above their meals.

The doors opened and in came Sergeant Shadow. 'Gentleman!' his voice bellowed thrue the room. 'Ahum....' a different voice sounded. 'Excuse me..., and ladies offcourse.' Shadow continued a little annoyed at the interruption. 'You will be pleased to hear we are leaving the compound tomorrow and heading out to Hades IV where our services are needed.' His strong voice had a way of keeping people's attention, even Weeperr had put down his knife and fork and was listening intetively.
' We will be leaving at 0700 hours. You will be briefed about the mission on arrival. I expect all of you to be on your best game! Enjoy the rest of your meals Marines.' He turned to Webley and gestured him to follow him. As they walked away from the room they could hear the excitement in the Marines voices about the new mission.

They entered Sergeant Shadows office.
'I need your honest judgement Corporal.'
'Offcourse Sergeant, what's this about?'
'This mission you're going on could be dangerous. I know you and your crew can handle yourself out there, but there have been reports about one of your men and I have to know this wont effect the mission in any way.'
'Are you referring to McCabbe sir?'
'Yes I am. I understand there was an issue with him again on the last mission.'
' McCabbe will keep in line sir, I will make sure of that.'
'If you are sure about this I trust you Webley, you haven't dissapointed me yet. But if this thing with McCabbe gets out of hand there will be consequences.'
'I will take care of it sir.'
'Good, good luck out there Webley.'
They shook hands and Webley left the room. He didn't return to the others immediately, he had some thinking to do. Not only would this mission be dangerous to begin with, but one of his men was a potential danger of his own . He had to find a way to get thrue to him. If not, things could go horribly wrong.....

[WPC] Chronicles chapter one: Welcome to the wolfpack

A young man walked up to the USMC compound, a duffle bag across his shoulder. The guard showed him into the heavily secured building. Inside Sergeant Shadow was waiting for him, the young soldier gave him the apropriate salute. "Welcome to the United States Marine Corp, Private!". He shook his hand, a bit uneasy about what to expect. He was still in training when a recruitement agent approached him about joining the Marines. Now, one month later, he was about to enter the thoughest crew in the whole army. They turned and walked down one of the corridors.

They had arrived at the dorms. "This is where you'll stay when you're not on a mission." Sergeant Shadow said, he was a large man with a deep voice. A uniform lay on the empty bunkbed, his name was stitched onto the front pocket. He looked around the room, not much to see apart from the empty beds and some personal reminders of home. He thought of his own family and the difficult goodbyes they had said earlier that day. He wondered when he would see them again.

"Lets join the others in the messhall", Sergeant Shadow said. He left his dufflebag beside his bed and followed the Sergeant. The large man had the natural air of a leader. Besides his impressive posture and bellowing voice there was something in the air around him that made you aware of his leadership. They heard music and excited voices coming closer as they approached the door at the end of the hall. "The team is celebrating. They just returned from a succesfull mission." The sound of laughter filled the air, followed by what sounded like howling. The captain opened the door and the Private stepped in. The team sat around a table, drinking from large cups.

The atmosphere was relaxed, the looks on there faces exhausted. One of the Marines came up to them, his hair was long and black, his skintone a couple of shades darker then his own. He looked like a warrior. "Private, this here is 1st Corporal Webley. He will show you the ropes around this place." The soldier wanted to salute him but the Corporal lay a hand on his shoulder to say that wasn't needed at the moment. He smiled at him as he asked, " What do they call you rookie?" "Blaze", the Private answered. "Well Blaze, " Webley said, " Welcome to the Wolfpack".
